Crowns and bridges
How are crowns made?
Generally, it takes two appointments to prepare and cement a crown. During the first visit, your dentist prepares the tooth to enable an impression to be taken and fits a temporary crown, custom-made by a specialised lab technician
A crown is a tooth-shaped ‘cap’ that’s placed over the entire visible portion of your tooth. A crown will look, feel and function just like any of your other teeth. The latest advances in ceramic now allow us to create crowns which are indistinguishable from your own natural teeth.
Why do I need a crown?
Sometimes crowns are needed because of aesthetic considerations but mainly it’s due to a lack of remaining tooth structure. Most commonly, a tooth that has a large filling or has sustained a fracture will need a crown.
At your second visit, the temporary crown is removed and the new crown cemented into place.
Reasons you may need a crown:
- You have injured, decaying or broken teeth
- You would like your smile to be more aesthetically pleasing
- You have had root canal treatment

We use dental crowns, which are also referred to as “caps” during restoration work on the teeth. They are made specifically for your mouth and fit over the tooth or teeth in order to protect the natural teeth and to enhance the aesthetics of the smile. A dental bridge is used as a restorative treatment when there is a missing tooth. Crowns are placed or each side of the gap and are connected to a false tooth which sits in place of the lost natural tooth.
At Glusica Dental Clinic we have a choice of treatments when it comes to crowns and bridges. If you would prefer the more traditional hand-made laboratory crowns, this can be done by our expert ceramists using the highest standard materials. All our ceramic treatments are of the highest quality guaranteeing strong, durable and aesthetically pleasing results.
At Glusica Dental Clinic we are able to offer patients our ceramic crown treatment at partnering ceramic studio within our dental practice.
